Who Is The Best Product Or Service - 874 Words

Welcome to the Experience Economy With so many companies nowadays, it is hard to chose which one has the best product or service. All of them sell products, but only a few sell experiences. What is an experience? According to a study made by B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore [Welcome to the Experience Economy], an experience occurs when a company intentionally uses services as the stage, and goods as props, to engage individual customers in a way that creates a memorable event. â€Å"Commodities are fungible, goods tangible, services intangible, and experiences memorable.† Moreover, two people cannot have the same experience because each experience derives from the interaction between the stages event and the individual’s state of mind. Experiences were usually associated with the entertainment business, such as Disney World. However, today, the concept of selling experiences is spreading beyond theaters and theme parks; companies stage an experience whenever they engage customers in a personal, memorable way. The study also indicates that some companies such as Disney and Universal do charge guests an admission fee for their experiences. Nevertheless, some do not; if they did charge an admission fee, they would be forced to stage a much better experience to attract paying guests. Pine and Gilmore believe that experiences have two dimensions. The first is the customer participation, which can be passive or active.
